Tenosynovitis in jumping horses affects the phases of jumping:

1 . Takeoff

Loading and Propulsion: During takeoff, the front legs bear a significant amount of weight and are crucial for propulsion. Tenosynovitis can cause pain and weakness in the tendons and synovial sheaths of the hands, which affects the horse’s ability to push off powerfully and maintain proper posture when initiating the jump.

2.Landing

Shock Absorption: The horse’s hands absorb much of the impact when landing. The inflammation and pain associated with tenosynovitis can compromise the horse’s ability to absorb impact properly, increasing the risk of additional injury or aggravating the existing condition.

In both phases, tenosynovitis reduces the horse’s efficiency and stability, which can affect its overall performance and predispose it to additional injury. It is crucial to diagnose and treat the condition early to prevent further damage and maintain the horse’s performance in competition.
